Cogne, an ancient agricultural and mining village, is right at the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, and used to be the Italian Kings' favourite hunting place for chamois and ibex.
It is located at 5033 ft. (1534 meters) above sea level, at the foot of the highest entirely Italian mountain, the Gran Paradiso.

Its well kept and marked footpaths lead the tourist through an unblemished natural environment, with abundant flora and fauna, up to the most demanding climbs, either walking, riding a mountain bike or a horse. It is also possible to train for mountain climbing, both in and out of doors. Tennis courts are available.
From June to September you may be charmed by a visit to the "Paradisia" botanical garden, hosting a great variety of mountain flowers and plants from all over the world.
In the winter Cogne offers ski-lifts for downhill skiing, telemark and snowboarding, a children snow games playground, many tracks for cross-country skiing - from easy to difficult - for a total lenght of 80 Km. (50 miles), ice cascade climbing, excursions with snow rackets and ski-mountaineering excursions.
